Welcome to third grade and to our class website! On this site, you can access our newsletters, study guides, links, and other helpful information.
Multiplication Practice
-This week we are learning our 11s multiplication facts as a class. A cumulative fact drill will be given on Thursday on 0-11 facts. This fact drill will be a grade. Your child will also have a fact drill on the single set of facts that he or she is currently working towards mastery of on Friday for our popcorn and movie party. We will begin timed multiplication facts in two weeks! Please ensure that your child is studying multiplication facts nightly so they will become fluent!
-Please make sure your child is studying the flashcards we have made in class every night. Ask them about the game of Salute, and spend time playing this game with the flashcards if you have time. We are working towards being fluent with our facts, and this takes practice! Students will need to be able to answer the multiplication questions efficiently without drawing a picture for every question. Thank you for working with them at home to help them master their facts!
-www.multiplication.com and mathematician.com are two great places for students to practice their facts online :)
-A multiplication facts study log will be coming home for the next several weeks in the place of Unhomework. Please check your child's folder for this important study sheet and let me know if you have any questions. Math homework will also come home on Mondays.
Chattanooga Field Trip (April 21st)
The first field trip installment is due January 31st. A field trip installment reminder listing the amount due for the first installment will come home on Monday in your child's red communication folder. These will only come home with students who returned the initial field trip form :)
Science Activity
In science, we are studying severe weather and natural disasters. This week we will be designing solutions to reduce the impact of a weather related hazard (flood, hurricane, tsunami, tornado, thunderstorm, etc.) Students will be researching and designing their solutions, and then they will be building a model of their solutions later in the week. We will need a few supplies in order to make this hands on activity a success. If anyone is able to send in wax paper, foam sheets (these come in large packs at the dollar store), toothpicks, popsicle sticks, white poster board, felt, bottles of Elmer's Glue (we need about 6 of these), and Lego blocks (Legos will be returned), please let me know. The students are I thank you in advance :)
